Paid time off is a benefit that teachers and staff are encouraged to use in accordance with the Paid Time Off Policy. Policy 302.9 (http://policy.cps.edu/download.aspx?ID=49). Requests for paid time off must be approved by the principal.  Use of benefit time is NOT a matter of discretion for employees.

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

Every year NAEP releases items and the public can access these items at no cost from the NAEP Questions Tool.

The NAEP Questions Tool provides easy access to NAEP questions, student responses, and scoring guides that have been released to the public since 1990.

  • Questions are available for grades 4, 8, & 12 in various content areas.
  • Users can search for individual questions or for a block.
  • Users can examine student performance on specific questions by subgroups.
  • State specific results are available for years the state participated in NAEP.
  • Scoring procedures are explained.
  • Teachers can create their own tests by picking and choosing the released items they want. The items are easily downloadable.
  • Item formats are multiple choice, short constructed response, and extended constructed response

Dr. Wanda Dann, an active member of the Alice team for the last decade, has recently assumed leadership of the team. She is currently transitioning into a faculty position at Carnegie Mellon University from Associate Professor of Computer Science at Ithaca College. Wanda's research interests include visualization in programming and programming languages and innovative approaches to introductory programming.

With Dr. Steve Cooper and Dr. Randy Pausch, she has published papers on the use of program visualization in teaching and learning introductory programming. Papers have appeared in ACM's Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) inroads, the Computer Science Education Journal, and other related publications. She is co-author of Learning to Program with Alice (2006, Prentice-Hall).
